Weekly vs. Biweekly vs. Monthly Cleaning: Which Plan Fits a Chicago Home?
Weekly, biweekly or monthly house cleaning in Chicago? Compare real per-visit and monthly costs, who each plan suits, and how to choose the right schedule.
Short answer: for most Chicago apartments and condos, biweekly cleaning (every two weeks) is the best fit. It keeps the home from ever getting out of hand at about half the monthly cost of weekly service. Choose weekly if you have kids, pets, allergies or entertain often, and monthly if you live alone or as a couple and keep up on your own. With Tailored, a recurring visit costs $153 to $309 depending on home size and frequency, and weekly and biweekly visits cost the same or less per visit than monthly ones.
Picking a cleaning schedule sounds simple until you start comparing quotes. Per-visit prices, monthly totals and "first visit" fees all get mixed together, and it's hard to tell which plan actually gives you the most for your money. This guide lays out the real numbers, explains what each frequency is good for, and walks through how Chicago households usually decide.
Recurring cleaning prices in Chicago, side by side
These are Tailored Home Cleaning's published 2026 rates for a recurring house cleaning plan. The per-visit price is what you pay each time the crew comes.
| Home size | Weekly (per visit) | Biweekly (per visit) | Monthly (per visit) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Studio | $153 | $153 | $175 |
| 1 bedroom | $169 | $169 | $195 |
| 2 bedrooms | $216 | $216 | $239 |
| 3 bedrooms | $247 | $259 | $309 |
Now the number most people actually budget around: what it costs per month. Weekly means 52 visits a year, biweekly means 26, and monthly means 12. Here's the average monthly spend (annual cost divided by 12):
| Home size | Weekly | Biweekly | Monthly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Studio | about $663 | about $332 | $175 |
| 1 bedroom | about $732 | about $366 | $195 |
| 2 bedrooms | $936 | $468 | $239 |
| 3 bedrooms | about $1,070 | about $561 | $309 |
In any given calendar month a biweekly plan has two visits, occasionally three, so a biweekly 1BR runs $338 in most months.
Two things jump out. Monthly is the lowest total spend, but it's the most expensive per visit, because the crew is working through four weeks of build-up instead of one or two. And going from monthly to biweekly more than doubles your visits (26 a year instead of 12) for less than double the monthly spend.
Why more frequent cleaning costs less per visit
Cleaning time depends on how much has built up since the last visit. After one week, a bathroom needs a wipe-down, a quick scrub of the tub and toilet, and the floor. After four weeks, the same bathroom has soap scum that needs to soak, hard-water spots on fixtures, and dust in every corner. The second job takes longer, so it costs more.
That's also why every good recurring plan starts with a deep clean. With us, your first visit is billed as a Refresh deep clean ($279 for a studio or 1BR, $404 for a 2BR, $530 for a 3BR). That first visit removes the existing grime from grout, baseboards and appliance fronts, so every visit after it is true maintenance at the lower plan rate.
Weekly cleaning: who it's for
Weekly cleaning means your home is never more than seven days from professionally clean. It makes the most sense when mess comes back fast.
Weekly is usually the right call if you:
- Have young kids, since high chairs, bathroom splashes and sticky floors don't wait two weeks
- Have a dog or cat that sheds, especially on hardwood, which is everywhere in Chicago two-flats and vintage apartments
- Have allergies or asthma and want dust and dander kept consistently low
- Host often, work from home or simply want the place guest-ready at all times
- Live in a larger home (three bedrooms or more) where two weeks of use adds up
The trade-off is cost. Weekly is the biggest monthly commitment, even though the per-visit price is the lowest. If you're on the fence, start biweekly and move up if you find yourself cleaning a lot in the second week.
Biweekly cleaning: the Chicago default
Biweekly is the most popular plan we see in Chicago apartments and condos, from Lakeview and Lincoln Park walk-ups to River North and South Loop high-rises. It's the sweet spot for most households.
Biweekly works well if you:
- Live alone, as a couple or with a roommate
- Do quick daily tidying (dishes, wiping counters) but don't want to scrub bathrooms or mop floors
- Have one pet, or a pet that doesn't shed much
- Want the home to stay consistently clean without the cost of weekly visits
The per-visit price for a studio through a 2BR is the same as weekly, so you aren't penalized for choosing the lighter schedule. You simply get half as many visits.
Monthly cleaning: when it's enough
Monthly cleaning is a thorough reset rather than ongoing maintenance. It works for people who keep up with the basics themselves.
Monthly fits if you:
- Live alone in a smaller unit and travel often
- Already clean weekly yourself and want a professional to handle the harder jobs once a month
- Want help on a tight budget and accept that the home will look lived-in by week three or four
Be realistic about monthly. Four weeks is long enough for bathrooms and kitchens to get noticeably dirty, so if you find yourself doing a big clean before each visit, biweekly will feel much better for a modest step up in cost.
How to choose: a quick decision guide
Ask yourself these questions:
- How fast does your home get messy? If the kitchen and bathroom look rough after a week, go weekly. If it takes two to three weeks, biweekly is enough.
- Who and what lives there? Kids, multiple pets or allergies point to weekly. A single person or couple with no pets often does fine biweekly or monthly.
- What will you do between visits? Biweekly assumes you'll handle dishes, trash and quick wipe-downs. Monthly assumes you'll do more than that.
- What's your monthly budget? Look at the monthly table above, not just the per-visit price.
- Is there a season change coming? Many Chicago households go weekly in winter, when salt, slush and closed windows make floors and air dirtier, and drop back to biweekly in summer.
What a recurring visit includes
Whichever frequency you choose, each visit follows the same written checklist (see our standard cleaning checklist):
- Kitchen: counters, sink, stovetop, appliance fronts and the microwave
- Bathrooms: tub, shower, toilet, sink, mirrors and floors
- Dusting: reachable surfaces, sills and baseboards, on a rotating basis
- Floors: vacuumed and mopped in every room
- Beds: made, with linens changed if you leave fresh ones out
We schedule the same crew for your plan whenever possible, so they learn your home and your preferences. Add-ons like the inside of the fridge or oven can be added to any visit.
Chicago-specific things to think about
Winter salt and slush. From December through March, entryways and hardwood floors take a beating. If you're biweekly, ask for extra attention at the entry, or consider weekly for the winter months.
Building rules. High-rises often require service-elevator reservations or a certificate of insurance from vendors, and some limit work hours. A fixed recurring day and time makes this much easier to manage with your building.
Lease turnover. If you're planning to move around May 1 or August 1, keep your recurring plan until move-out week, then book a move-out clean. A home that's been cleaned regularly is faster and cheaper to get deposit-ready.
Rentals and short-term units. If you're a landlord or host, a recurring schedule for occupied units is different from turnovers between guests. For those, look at our rental turnover cleaning.
Can you switch plans later?
Yes. With Tailored there's no contract. You can skip or reschedule a visit with 48 hours' notice, change frequency as your life changes, and cancel anytime. Many customers start biweekly, then adjust after a month or two once they see how the home holds up between visits.
Frequently asked questions
Is biweekly cleaning enough for a Chicago apartment?
For most one- and two-bedroom apartments with one or two adults, yes. Biweekly keeps bathrooms, the kitchen and floors from building up grime, as long as you handle dishes and quick daily tidying between visits. Households with kids, heavy-shedding pets or allergies usually do better weekly.
How much does biweekly house cleaning cost in Chicago?
With Tailored, biweekly visits are $153 for a studio, $169 for a 1BR, $216 for a 2BR and $259 for a 3BR. That averages about $332 to $561 a month, depending on home size. The first visit is billed as a deep clean so later visits can stay at the lower rate.
Is weekly cleaning more expensive than biweekly?
Per visit, no. For a studio through a 2BR the weekly and biweekly price is the same, and for a 3BR weekly is actually cheaper per visit ($247 vs. $259). Per month, weekly costs about twice as much because you get twice as many visits.
Why is monthly cleaning more expensive per visit?
Because there's more to clean. Four weeks of build-up in kitchens and bathrooms takes longer to remove than one or two weeks, so each monthly visit is a bigger job.
Do I need a deep clean before starting recurring service?
Yes, if the home hasn't been professionally cleaned recently. We bill your first recurring visit as a Refresh deep clean to set a true baseline. After that, every visit is billed at your plan rate.
Do I get the same cleaners every time?
We schedule the same crew for your plan whenever possible, and every visit follows the same written checklist so nothing gets skipped.
